UNEP teams up with CBEEX to hold Urban Sewage Treatment Technology Transfer International Forum

On April 2, 2015, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and China Beijing Environment Exchange (CBEEX) jointly held Urban Sewage Treatment Technology Transfer International Forum. A total of 80 representatives from Cambodian Environmental Protection Ministry, diplomatic missions in China, academic circles, enterprises, industrial associations, NGOs and financial institutions attended the forum. Mr. Zhang Shigang, representative of UNEP in China, and Mr. Du Shaozhong, president of Low Carbon Wisdom Institute of Beijing Institute of Technology, addressed the forum.

The forum is the conclusive meeting for the “Sewage Treatment Technology Transfer International Partnership Project.” Throughout the past year, UNEP’s experts made investigations to 40-odd sewage treatment technologies in China’s 20-odd typical cities, explored the technical demands in Africa and other developing countries, and visited Cambodia for investigating environmental cooperation demands and gaps. Based on the work, the project group will further roll out mechanical explorations and set up a platform involving multiple parties.

At the forum, CBEEX established the “Global Sewage Proposal” regional center to fully share information and technology and boost the south-south cooperation in sewage treatment. UNEP also announced to cooperate with china.com.cn for setting up a bilingual website to realize the matching between resources and demands.
