Lactase can hydrolyze lactose into glucose and galactose for processing cowmilk and whey for production of low-lactose milk and low-lactose dairy products. It can be used to cure lactose intolerance disease. Lactose is the main sugar content of milk, and its content is about 5%. As many human beings are lack of lactase, therefore, it is difficult for them to digest milk. Due to the common existence of lactose intolerance, a considerable number of persons can’t fully digest the nutrients in the natural and well-balanced food – milk. This is one of the reasons that impede development of dairy industry of China. Low-lactose milk and low-lactose products are most effect ways to solve this issue. Production of low-lactose milk and low-lactose products must depend on a high-efficient biological catalyst – lactase.
A research team guided by academician uses modern molecular biology and gene engineering technology to develop a kind of new and high-efficient lactose production technology. The product is better than other lactases in commercial production at present in terms of effectiveness, thermal stability, stress resistance and broad spectrum. Unit expression volume of the invented lactase is 6kg/L, about six times of genetic aspergillus in commercialized production of overseas markets. In the meantime, the lactase expressed can be excreted to outside of the cell, solving the issues such as low per unit production volume and difficult post processing in production of lactase.
Now, the project has passed the appraisal of the country and has been granted the national patent. The technology realizes the low-cost production of lactase and boasts prospective future. If calculated by the annual production capacity of 250 tons per year, the project will generate the annual sales revenue of 250 million yuan. A deduction of 50 million yuan of costs, the project will generate the total pre-tax return of 200 million yuan.
